FAA Stopgap and Long-Term Bill Could Move Soon

 

The short-term Federal Aviation Administration extension passed by the House is expected to clear the Senate on Thursday, according to John D. Rockefeller IV.

 

The West Virgina Democrat also told reporters that "the issues are all put to bed" on a long-term FAA reauthorization bill (HR 658). More

Lawmakers reach compromise over FAA bill, aides say

 

WASHINGTON   Lawmakers reached a compromise Friday that toughens the rules airline and railroad workers must follow to hold union elections, boosting prospects for passage of a long-term funding plan for the Federal Aviation Administration, congressional aides said.  More.

Controller nearly caused midair collision

A regional jet operated by ExpressJet and a single-engine Cessna came within 300 feet of colliding after they were cleared to take off on intersecting runways at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport in Mississippi on June 19, according to NTSB officials and documents released by the board. More

 

FAA regulations say only pilots with commercial pilot licenses can fly for hire. The pilots of Operation Migration's plane are instead licensed to fly sport aircraft because that's the category of aircraft that the group's small, open plane with its rear propeller and bird-like wings falls under. FAA regulations also prohibit sport aircraft — which are sometimes of exotic design — from being flown to benefit a business or charity.

Cupcake Deemed 'Security Threat' Confiscated by TSA at Las Vegas Airport

 

Las Vegas   A sweet treat or a weapon of mass destruction?  A Massachusetts woman says a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent confiscated her cupcake because its "gel-like" frosting could have been an explosive. Rebecca Hains, or Peabody, told WHDH-TV that she had traveled from Boston's Logan International Airport to Las Vegas with two red velvet cupcakes packaged in jars. More

 

 

 

Phil Falcone’s high-speed mobile Internet startup will interfere with a “majority” of agriculture and military GPS systems, a U.S. government group said yesterday.

 

The startup, LightSquared, in which the New York billionaire has invested $3 billion, is hoping to get the thumbs-up from Washington to start operating. But it must first assure several agencies its 40,000-tower 4G network will not harm GPS systems. More

Our members are dedicated to certifying the safety and the efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS); maintaining and supporting this nation’s air traffic control system with the utmost professionalism; and ensuring the integrity, the reliability, and the safety of the commercial and general aviation industries. Whenever you fly, the work our members do behind the scenes helps you get there safely.

Who Are PASS Members?

FAA approves iPads for pilots' electronic charts

The Federal Aviation Administration is allowing a private-jet company to use iPads as an approved alternative to paper charts.

4G Broadband May Jam GPS

New Network is Designed to Transmit on Frequency Adjacent to the GPS Band. A company called LightSquared is building a 4G broadband Internet network in the US that will use 40,000 ground-based transmitters and a satellite to make a state-of-the-art open wireless broadband network. More
